Halloween is just around the corner, so you know what that means — your home is going to be covered in decorations. From spider webs draped down the stairwell to ghosts and bats hanging from the ceiling, we’re sure you went all out to be the scariest house on the block. But do you know what’s really scary — when people involve their home heating systems in their decorating and holiday fun. Since we’d like you to avoid any danger, here are a few things you should never do to your radiator on Halloween.
Things to Never Do to Your Radiator on Halloween
Put Decorations on It
Think about it — most Halloween decorations are made of plastic and/or paper. If you end up putting any decorations on your radiator, they could easily melt onto the unit if they’re plastic or the heat could light the paper items on fire. Plus, small decorations could fall into the radiator itself and get stuck, causing internal problems with the system.
Use It As a Table
We’ve seen people try to balance a board or other flat surface on their radiators in order to use them as a table, and that is a big no-no. Like the decorations, the surface you put on top of the radiator could melt or become too hot to touch. Beyond that, all it takes is someone bumping into the “tabletop” for it to go tumbling down, potentially spilling food or drinks onto, or even into, your radiator. That will leave you with a big mess and a damaged system.
